As they say, actions speak louder than words. 8 runs like crap on my machine. 7 has NO issues. Care to explain?

I will say this. 8 with all of it's live tiles eats up my internet bandwith.

I can't explain it. 8 should run fine on any rig that'll run 7 well.

I would venture to say that you may have gotten a borked install of 8, like I did when I first installed 8.1.

I had to reinstall fresh to fix it. Microsoft couldn't explain it to me either.

No, no borked install. I downloaded the copy of 8 from the link in my email from Microsoft. Burned at low speed, and verified after burning. I did a clean install. Asking Windows 8 to simply open control panel was like pulling teeth, took over two minutes. Booting 8 took forever, and 8 couldn't even run my wifi card. No drivers. To get the wifi card to work I had to install 7 first then install 8 on top. Still 8 was really slow.So I've done the install of 8 both ways, clean and over 7. Does not matter.

Wifi card runs fine under 7. 7 is nice and fast, never locks up nor takes forever to execute a command.

So I would say 8 isn't for every computer out here.

That sounds more like a problem with a piece of hardware/driver. Probably a bad sector in the HDD or a bad memory stick. Because then it's coincidence which one runs best: the win8 install is the unlucky one which is installed incorrectly because of the bad memory, or it's installed on a bad sector.

Your statement is not logical. Windows 7 found no issues with the hard drive or the memory. And I have conducted several scans of the hard drive using multiple tools for bad sectors, it came up clean. The memory came up clean using Memtest.

Those tests don't mean much. You've got a situation where a windows 7 install works perfectly and a windows 8 install works like crap. They use different parts of memory and HDD, during both install and operation. The logical conclusion is that there's something wrong there even if tests show no problem. My brother had a problem like that once, one version of windows installed fine but a newer version of windows failed to install correctly and he couldn't find the problem, until he replaced a memory stick... that was the source of all misery.

Less likely but also possible: it could also be a crappy driver. Try disconnecting non-vital parts of your computer, like a DVD player, network card, and see if performance improves.

A bad sector isn't the only problem with a failing HDD. A HDD consists of several smaller disks. If one of those is showing signs of wear and there and win8 happens to be installed on that partition (or platter), then win8 will become unpredictable as well.

It's elimination of the probable until only the improbable is left.

Ok suit yourself. But your win8 problem indicates a problem with your system, if you leave it like that you'll run into problems sooner or later.

I doubt I will have any issues. On new hardware? The issues you speak of would have shown up on 7 by now. Thank you for your concern, but I'm sure it's OK.

Win 8 seems to work well, no issues so far.  ** came on my recently "bought" machine**..

Will not upgrade to win 8.1 as I do not want the "skydrive integrated" baloney..

Will prolly stick with 8 till another Os is offered without forcing me to use cloud based computing....

Thank heaven for S.D. and their customization goodies which make win 8 look and act like Vista "in the essence of having a start button again"..

It bodes well to realize that even two of the same machines will interact differently with an os or programs.. hand built machines typically more so..

It is not unheard of that an older Os will run better than a newer one..sometimes just the hardware configuration or the hardware it's self can be a determining factor..

Is it typical to buy parts with issues or simply ones that don't work at all??  Actually yes.. I have over the years of building machines come across many many instances of broken or sub-par performing parts, right out of the box..

Had a brand new ram stick that messed all kinds of stuff up, "Mind you that it took some time to catch on that there were problems" they were nether obvious nor instant... It held its own during benchmark tests, but after yanking it out of the machine, the problems stopped.

Brand new OEM screen for my sons laptop I replaced recently, wouldn't work with the Dimming/brightness software installed by the MFG..

So yes a piece of hardware that "works" can still be not "working properly"...

Also.. I cant remember who said they didn't like all the windows8 *start menu Apps* hogging up bandwidth or resources.  See here for instructions on how to uninstall them..   uninstall windows8 apps 

Sometimes I wish... I wish... that computers were equipped with a big fat red self-destruct button. With a dark angry voice counting down to zero... oh the fun of seeing your piece of &(%@ blow up in a big explosion.

But I have only ever seen a tiny whisp of smoke when I ran an old computer of mine without a cooler. The CPU was fried instantly.

Dumb machines... humans are turned on all the time and they never needed a cooler. Although humans do need something to cool off... but they never get fried.

Only chickens get fried and only in Kentucky. Fortunately humans aren't chickens... 

You can disable it, when .1 came out i recommended to do so.
Syncing and Skydrive and more can be disabled 2 or 3 ways
1st. can be found under PC settings in the (charmsbar menu where the shutdown is located) there is more much more but we are talking about skydrive.
2nd. you can also force skydrive on spezific folders only...
3rd: FOR ADVANCED USERS ONLY - 
Please if anyone else is reading this and is unsure how to use regedit : DO NOT attempt this on your own.

open cmd/regedit

navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Skydrive" 
create a new DWORD32 and name it "DisableFileSync"
double klick and insert the value "1"
confirm with ok
close cmd and restart the system
to enable it once again simply delete the created reg file.

If this is to complicated...or you currently are not in the mood to make all these steps:

ENABLE SKYDRIVE

create a reg key on your desktop
insert:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Skydrive]
"DisableFileSync"=-

save it launch it and restart - it will be enabled

DISABLE SKYDRIVE
create a reg key and insert:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Skydrive]
"DisableFileSync"=dword:00000001

About time.  I bought a machine with 8 on it and took it back after 2 weeks and got my money back.  Had my W7 machine fixed.

And this is not necessarily indicative of a bad OS.
